A precision agriculture platform for optimizing costs and increasing yields for farmers MoreLess
FarmX, founded in 2014, provides a comprehensive autonomous farming solution aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability in the agricultural sector. The company was co-founded by CEO Tushar Dave and CTO Robin Woodby. Dave was previously the founding Chairman & CEO of Enlighted, which was acquired by Siemens, while Woodby is a software innovator and full-stack data architect with over a decade of experience leading development teams.
The firm’s evolution began with a focus on solving irrigation and water management challenges through an advanced soil moisture probe. Realizing data was only one component, FarmX integrated an automated valve control system in 2018 for remote irrigation management. A significant milestone occurred in 2019 with the merger of WaterBit, a company specializing in wireless micro-block water valve technology. This was followed by the acquisition of AutoModality in 2022, a leader in autonomous software for robots and drones, which propelled FarmX to the forefront of autonomous farming.
FarmX operates a business-to-business model, serving growers by providing tools to optimize crop yields and conserve resources. The core of its offering is a unified platform, accessible via a single application, that integrates in-field sensing, data analysis, and automation. The platform utilizes a patented method for robotic systems to navigate in environments without GPS by using onboard sensors to perceive the landscape. Its services include monitoring soil moisture, plant health, and climate, as well as controlling irrigation and fertigation schedules. The company’s Osmo sensor can analyze up to 48 cubic feet of soil, sending real-time data to a mobile app. For automation, FarmX offers retrofit kits to make existing farm vehicles autonomous and is developing its own autonomous tractors.
