EPIC Microsystems
Power delivery semiconductor solutions for AI infrastructure.
About EPIC Microsystems
EPIC Microsystems is a semiconductor company developing power delivery solutions specifically for AI data center infrastructure. The firm was established in San Francisco in 2024 by co-founders Sabin Eftimie (CEO) and Wonyoung Kim (COO). Eftimie brings nearly 25 years of experience in high-performance ICs and power systems, including leading the DC-DC power engineering team at Dialog Semiconductor and co-founding Lion Semiconductor, which was acquired by Cirrus Logic in 2021 for $335 million. Kim also served as a co-founder at Lion Semiconductor. The founding team's prior work involved pioneering switched-capacitor power solutions for fast charging in the mobile device market.
The company's core technology is its hybrid switched-capacitor (HSC) architecture, which addresses critical power challenges in high-performance AI systems. As AI accelerators like GPUs surpass 1,000 watts per chip, traditional power delivery methods struggle with efficiency, size, and thermal management. EPIC's solution replaces bulky inductors with a more efficient combination of capacitors and other components, creating a compact, low-profile power management integrated circuit (PMIC). This design is optimized for vertical power delivery, allowing the voltage regulators to be placed directly under the AI processor, which significantly reduces power loss and heat, while improving current density and transient response. The primary clients are hyperscalers and operators of large AI data centers.
In March 2026, EPIC Microsystems announced it had raised $21 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round. The round was led by Seligman Ventures, with participation from Intel Capital, AICONIC Ventures, and Cambium Capital, among others. This funding is intended to accelerate the development and commercialization of its vertical power delivery technology for next-generation AI platforms. As part of the investment, Umesh Padval, Managing Partner at Seligman Ventures and a semiconductor industry veteran, joined the company's Board of Directors.
