Edge-AI on autonomous VTOL drones stopping wildfires before ignition. Patents pending in 42 markets
About Drovid
Drovid is a Technology-as-a-Service platform built to stop wildfires before they start. Most detection systems, satellites, 360-degree robotic cameras, fixed towers, or reactive drone patrols, only see a fire after ignition, when suppression costs are already climbing. Many of these systems also generate frequent false alarms from sun glare, fog, or vegetation, which forces clients to staff a control room around the clock just to filter what the sensors flag, adding a layer of infrastructure and payroll that never shows up in the sensor's own spec sheet. Drovid works earlier and lighter: Autonomous VTOL drones, equipped with thermal and RGB cameras, can scan several thousand hectares per module, processing imagery and weather data on board through proprietary Edge AI models (AirWERD for fire and smoke detection, AirRAPT for human activity classification) that correlate multiple data layers to rule out common false triggers before an alert is ever raised. Because the analysis runs on the aircraft rather than in a control room, alerts reach response teams within seconds, carrying exact geolocation, with no dependency on continuous video streaming or a human watching a monitor.
The hardware feeds a multiuser SaaS platform that gives forestry companies and government agencies a role-based command center and an auditable chain of custody for every alert, the kind of data trail regulators and insurers increasingly require. Drovid markets this via subscription, which keeps the initial hardware cost off the client's balance sheet, and targets high gross margins as the platform scales.
The core method and architecture are protected by a PCT patent application now entering national phase in 42 markets, including the US, the 39 member states of the European Patent Office, India, and Brazil, alongside an international brand currently being registered in 58 countries via the Madrid Protocol. Drovid has worked directly with Chile's National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) on field data collection in a major forest reserve, and the Investigative Police's environmental crimes unit has confirmed the urgency of a technology able to counter the illicit human activity behind these fires, a gap outside what their current tools can address. Drovid is a member of the Google for Startups and Startups for Sustainable Development networks, is featured as a solution on the Solar Impulse Foundation's portal (currently under review for its Efficient Solution label), and won the WIPO Global Awards in 2026.
The team is led by CEO Cristian León, CTO José Novoa Ilić (a PhD and expert in machine learning), Violeta Chang (a PhD and expert in image processing), CFO Diego Soffia, and CRO Daniel Urtubia.
Thanks to its PCT patent, which already covers the United States, the 39 member states of the European Patent Office, Brazil, and India, Drovid is poised to launch its commercialization and scaling phase after closing its next funding round, prioritizing the region that best aligns with its lead investor's network and reach.
