Double Dutch Drinks
A range of two premium soft drink mixers that are specifically developed to enhance the flavours of gins and vodkas
About Double Dutch Drinks
Double Dutch Drinks offers a range of premium mixers and tonics designed to be paired with high-quality spirits or enjoyed as standalone soft drinks. The company's business model revolves around supplying its products to both the on-trade (hotels, bars, restaurants) and off-trade (retail) sectors, with a significant focus on high-end hospitality venues. Revenue is generated through direct sales of its bottled beverages to distributors, retailers like Waitrose and Ocado, and hospitality clients such as Soho House, where it is the exclusive tonic partner.
The company was founded in 2015 by Dutch twin sisters, Joyce and Raissa de Haas. The idea originated from their frustration with the lack of exciting mixer options available to pair with the growing variety of premium spirits. Growing up in the Netherlands, the birthplace of gin, and with parents who ran their own businesses and hosted spirit tastings, the sisters developed a passion for quality drinks from an early age. This passion project evolved into a business plan while they were pursuing a Master's in Entrepreneurship at University College London (UCL), where their joint thesis on the mixer market won an award, providing initial seed funding.
A significant milestone occurred in 2020 when the Heineken family acquired a minority stake of just under 10% in the company. This provided capital for international expansion and brought Michel de Carvalho, a major Heineken shareholder, onto the supervisory board to leverage his global network. Double Dutch has successfully raised capital to fuel its growth, including a £4 million funding round in 2023 aimed at UK brand building and expansion into the Benelux, UAE, and APAC regions. The product line is distinguished by its use of molecular gastronomy to create unique flavour pairings, such as Cucumber & Watermelon and Pomegranate & Basil. All drinks are made with natural ingredients, contain no artificial additives, and are designed to be lower in sugar. The brand emphasizes creating superior taste experiences, whether mixed with a spirit or consumed alone.
