About Dispersol Technologies

Dispersol Technologies, now operating as AustinPx Pharmaceutics and Manufacturing, was established in Georgetown, Texas, in 2007. The company originated from a research collaboration with the College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin. In August 2022, the company rebranded to AustinPx to reflect its strategic shift towards becoming a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). This transition was spearheaded by the appointment of Tim Scott, co-founder of Pharmatek Laboratories, as the new President and CEO.

The company's core offering is its proprietary KinetiSol® technology, a platform designed to enhance the bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drug molecules. This technology is a fusion-based process that creates amorphous solid dispersions, which can make clinically promising drugs with low bioavailability viable for patients. The KinetiSol process is notable for its brief processing times, typically under 20 seconds, which minimizes thermal stress on heat-sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The technology was co-invented by Dr. Dave Miller, who holds a PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Texas at Austin and now serves as Chief Scientific Officer, and Dr. Chris Brough. Dr. Brough adapted a plastics manufacturing process for pharmaceutical use and, along with Gershon Yaniv, launched Dispersol Technologies to commercialize it.

As a CDMO, AustinPx provides a range of services to pharmaceutical companies, from preclinical through Phase II formulation and development to cGMP manufacturing of oral dosage forms. The business model is fee-for-service, focusing on analytical and formulation development to support drug development pipelines. The company works with clients to improve their drug candidates, as seen in collaborations with companies like Ajax Therapeutics to enhance the bioavailability of a drug for hematologic malignancies. A significant milestone was the strategic collaboration with Catalent in August 2021, which involved installing a commercial-scale KinetiSol manufacturing line at Catalent's facility in New Jersey to support late-stage clinical development and commercial-scale production.
