Digiquant
About Digiquant
In 1979, in Roskilde, Denmark, Hasse Rasmussen founded Digiquant. The company set out to tackle a complex but crucial problem for the burgeoning telecommunications industry: creating a unified system to manage and bill for a growing number of services. Digiquant developed what's known as Operations Support Systems and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS) software. Think of it as the central nervous system for a telecom provider, handling everything from activating a new service to customer care and billing, all from a single platform. As the internet and mobile services exploded, so did the need for robust backend systems. Digiquant's core product, the IMS (Information and Management System), allowed carriers to manage and bill for next-generation services like VoIP, broadband, and content. The company gained significant traction, counting major players like Telefónica, Telecom Italia, and Omnitel Vodafone among its 50-plus service provider clients. This success attracted investors, and Digiquant raised a total of $28 million over two funding rounds, with backers including Cisco Investments and Index Ventures. A pivotal moment arrived in September 2003 when the British firm Intec Telecom Systems acquired Digiquant. The deal, valued at over €10 million including share issues and loan repayments, was a strategic move for Intec to absorb Digiquant's technology and expand its own offerings into new markets. For Digiquant, it was the culmination of its journey, folding its specialized technology into a larger, global OSS company and securing the future of its product line.
