Diameter Health, established in 2013 by co-founders Eric Rosow and John D'Amore, was acquired by Availity in August 2022 and now operates as Availity Clinical Solutions. The company was founded to address the challenge of heterogeneous clinical data coming from newly adopted electronic health records (EHRs). D'Amore, with a background in clinical informatics and experience at institutions like Allscripts and Memorial Hermann Health System, identified the need for software to normalize this disparate information for analytics and population health.

The core of the business is its proprietary Upcycling Data™ technology, specifically the Fusion engine. This technology automates the process of ingesting clinical data from multiple sources and in various formats. It then normalizes, enriches, deduplicates, and reorganizes this raw data into a clean, precise, and interoperable longitudinal data asset. The primary function is to make clinical data actionable for healthcare organizations. Before its acquisition, Diameter Health's clients included health insurance organizations, health information exchanges (HIEs), government agencies, life insurance vendors, and health information technology (HIT) integrators. The business model centered on providing this data optimization as a service, enabling clients to improve analytics, close care gaps, and assess risk more accurately.

The acquisition by Availity, one of the largest real-time health information networks in the U.S., marked a significant milestone. This strategic move integrated Diameter Health's clinical data expertise with Availity's extensive network, which facilitates billions of administrative and financial transactions annually. The combined entity, Availity Clinical Solutions, aims to create a robust platform that merges clinical and claims data. This integration provides health plans and providers with actionable, real-time insights to reduce administrative costs, improve care quality, and automate processes like prior authorizations. The service enables the creation of comprehensive health records by combining coding and payment information from claims systems with clinical details like lab results and provider notes from EHRs.
