The story of Crystal Crop Protection begins in 1994, founded by the visionary industrialist Nand Kishore Aggarwal with a focus on serving Indian agriculture. The company started by manufacturing and marketing agrochemical products like insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides. His son, Ankur Aggarwal, later joined the company, bringing a new dynamism and helping to steer its rapid growth. Now acting as Managing Director, his vision includes expanding through strategic acquisitions in India and overseas. A pivotal moment arrived in 2011 when private equity firm Everstone Capital invested ₹150 crore, acquiring a minority stake. This partnership provided not just capital but also deep operational expertise, setting the stage for significant expansion. The investment was aimed at consolidating Crystal's market position and fueling a strategy of inorganic growth through acquisitions. Following the funding, Crystal embarked on a series of acquisitions. The company diversified into the seeds market by acquiring Rohini-Seeds in 2011. It continued to expand its portfolio by acquiring brands from major players like Cheminova, BASF, Syngenta, FMC, and Corteva Agriscience. In 2018, the company received approval for an IPO to raise an estimated ₹1,000 crore, although this has not yet materialized. Through this aggressive acquisition strategy, Crystal Crop Protection has transformed from a domestic agrochemical formulator into a diversified, R&D-based crop solutions powerhouse.
