Crew, founded in 2015 by Danny Leffel and Broc Miramontes, operates as a communication and messaging application tailored for the mobile and 'deskless' workforce. On July 14, 2021, the fintech company Square (now Block, Inc.) acquired Crew to integrate its functionalities into their ecosystem. Following the acquisition, reports in 2024 indicated that the Crew app would be closing down, prompting users to seek alternative platforms.

The business model included a free version with limitations on group size and a paid, tiered "Enterprise" subscription that offered expanded features for larger organizations with more complex needs, including compliance controls and advanced analytics.
