Connecterra operates as a predictive intelligence firm focused on the agricultural technology sector, specifically targeting the dairy industry. The company was founded in 2014 by Yasir Khokhar and Saad Ansari, both with backgrounds as Microsoft engineers. Khokhar, the current CEO, was inspired to apply technology to farming after a stay on a dairy farm in the Netherlands, where he recognized the potential for cloud computing and AI to address agricultural challenges.

The core of Connecterra's business is its artificial intelligence platform that processes data to provide actionable insights for dairy farmers, their advisors, and other enterprises within the value chain. Initially, the company's flagship product was 'Ida', an AI-powered assistant that used wearable sensors on cows to monitor health, fertility, and well-being, translating the data into recommendations for farmers. However, in early 2023, Connecterra pivoted its strategy, selling its hardware and sensor business, along with the 'Ida for Farmers' product, to the Swiss company Datamars, which also became a majority shareholder.

Following this strategic shift, Connecterra is now exclusively a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider. Its main offering is the Connecterra platform (formerly Ida Enterprise), which integrates and analyzes data from various farm management systems. The platform is designed for farm leadership, dairy advisors, and corporations, enabling them to visualize and compare data, track the impact of their decisions, and use AI-powered predictions to model different scenarios. This helps clients optimize operations, improve herd management, and enhance sustainability. The company's business model is centered on subscriptions to its platform, providing a scalable solution for farms and related businesses of various sizes.
