Breadtrip
BreadTrip is a social application that enables users to record and share their trips with their friends in the form of travelogues
About Breadtrip
Breadtrip emerged in 2012 as a social travel platform headquartered in Beijing, China. Founded by Jimmy Jiao, the company aimed to create the largest mobile travel community in China by providing an application for users to document and share their travel experiences.
The platform functioned as a comprehensive travelogue, enabling users to create a visual map of their journeys. Its core service allowed individuals to upload pictures with descriptions, log accommodations, record flight details, and highlight visited attractions. This created a rich, user-generated content base that other travelers could use for inspiration and planning, allowing them to like, comment on, and share travelogues. The business model focused on engaging a community of travel enthusiasts, serving the B2C market within the Information Services and Application Software industries.
Breadtrip demonstrated significant traction in its early years, successfully raising a total of $62 million in venture capital over three funding rounds. The financing journey began with a $2 million Series A round in March 2013, followed by a Series B of approximately $10 million in December 2013 from China Broadband Capital. A substantial $50 million Series C round, led by Tencent, occurred in December 2014, with plans to expand the technical team and increase coverage of overseas destinations. Key investors included Tencent, CBC Capital, Vertex Ventures, and Eight Roads. Despite its initial success and a user base that grew to over 30 million active users, the company has since ceased operations and is now considered deadpooled.
