Tencent is a Chinese multinational internet and technology conglomerate headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Operating at the intersection of social networking, entertainment, financial technology, and enterprise services, it is one of the world's largest technology companies by market capitalisation and the largest in the global video games industry by equity investments. Its core consumer platforms — Weixin/WeChat and QQ — connect over one billion users, offering messaging, social networking, mobile payments (WeChat Pay), mini-programs, short-form video (Video Accounts), and a broad ecosystem of daily utility services. Tencent is the world's largest video game company by investment portfolio, holding major stakes in Riot Games (League of Legends), Epic Games (Fortnite), Supercell (Clash of Clans), and operating in-house titles including Honour of Kings and PUBG Mobile. Through its media and entertainment arm, it runs Tencent Video (long-form streaming), Tencent Music Entertainment (QQ Music, Kugou, Kuwo, WeSing), Tencent Esports, and digital literature platforms. Tencent's FinTech and Business Services segment covers mobile and commercial payments, wealth management, consumer lending, and cross-border financial solutions. Its cloud division — Tencent Cloud — provides infrastructure, AI, big data, and enterprise digital transformation services to businesses across finance, retail, healthcare, transportation, and education. Since 2016 Tencent has invested heavily in its proprietary Hunyuan AI foundation models, integrating them into advertising, search, content generation, and enterprise tools. Tencent serves both consumers and enterprises globally, with particular dominance in China's digital economy. In FY2024, the company reported revenues of approximately $104.6 billion USD, reflecting double-digit year-on-year growth across gaming, marketing services, and fintech.
