Boray Data, officially Beijing Boray Data Technology Co., Ltd., was established in 2014 by its founder and CEO, Liu Ruimin. The company operates as a provider of big data storage and analysis platforms, specializing in real-time data analysis and processing for businesses. Liu Ruimin earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Changchun University of Science and Technology and later received a full scholarship from Singapore Telecom to pursue his doctorate at the University of Colorado Boulder. His professional journey includes working at Hewlett-Packard's labs, focusing on massively parallel processing (MPP) databases, and at Tandem Computers, where he was mentored by Turing Award winner Jim Gray. Before founding Boray Data, Liu was introduced back to China as a special talent by a public company, where he served as CTO, leading the design and implementation of the UnionPay database disaster recovery system.

Boray Data targets a diverse client base across sectors such as finance, government, telecommunications, manufacturing, and energy. The company's business model revolves around providing comprehensive data analysis and systematic solutions through its proprietary platforms. A core component of its offering is the Rapids Data Platform (RDP), which leverages in-memory computing technology. This platform includes products like RapidsDB, a distributed real-time online processing engine, and Rapids StreamDB, a stream database. These products are designed to handle massive amounts of data with high performance, enabling tasks like querying 300 billion records to find a single entry within a second. The company also offers integrated hardware and software solutions, such as its data storage and computing all-in-one machine, to provide a one-stop solution for data collection, storage, and analysis.

A significant achievement for Boray Data is its role in setting international standards for big data technology. The company has led the development of international standards for stream databases, marking a notable contribution from a Chinese enterprise in a field historically dominated by Western companies. Since its inception, Boray Data has secured multiple rounds of funding from prominent investors. The funding journey includes a Series A round in 2015, a Series B in 2017, a Series C in 2020, and a Series D round in late 2022, accumulating over $56 million in total. The company is headquartered in Beijing and has established R&D centers and branches in Silicon Valley, Sydney, Shanghai, and other locations.
