Originally founded as BitKeep in 2018, the company has rebranded to Bitget Wallet following a significant investment from the cryptocurrency exchange Bitget. This strategic move positions the entity as a key component of the broader Bitget ecosystem, aiming to bridge the gap between centralized (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). The firm was established to provide secure and reliable non-custodial wallet services. Kevin Como, a co-founder, served as the initial CEO and was succeeded by Karry Cheung, the former Chief Product Officer, after Bitget became the controlling stakeholder in March 2023 with a $30 million investment, valuing the wallet provider at $300 million.

Bitget Wallet operates as a decentralized, non-custodial multi-chain wallet, giving users complete control over their private keys and digital assets. The platform serves a global user base, providing a suite of tools for interacting with the Web3 space. Its business model revolves around offering a comprehensive platform that includes a wallet, a decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator, an NFT marketplace, and a DApp browser, thereby generating revenue through transaction fees from swaps and other integrated services. The wallet supports over 130 blockchains and more than 255,400 types of cryptocurrencies, catering to both novice and experienced crypto users.

The core product is a comprehensive Web3 wallet available as a mobile app and browser extension. A key feature is the Bitget Swap, a DEX aggregator that pools liquidity from hundreds of decentralized exchanges to offer users optimal trading routes, reduced slippage, and cost-effective cross-chain transactions. Security is a major focus, employing measures like the "GetShield" security strategy, a Double Encryption Storage Mechanism (DESM) for private keys, Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology, and a $300 million User Protection Fund. The platform has also introduced the Bitget Onchain Layer and a $10 million ecosystem fund to foster the development of native DApps. The ecosystem is powered by its native token, BWB, which is used for community governance, staking, and paying multi-chain gas fees.
