Founded in May 2019 by Xiao Lin, a former researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the company addresses the growing global demand for sustainable battery material recovery. Dr. Lin's background in critical metal separation and sustainable battery material manufacturing forms the technical foundation of the company. He is joined by co-founder and COO, Dr. Xue Wang, whose expertise lies in metallurgy, chemical technology, and materials engineering.

The company's business model revolves around providing end-to-end solutions that cover pre-processing, metal extraction, purification, and materials regeneration. It serves a worldwide clientele that includes battery manufacturers, automotive companies, energy storage enterprises, and recycling operators. Botree's core service is its hydrometallurgical recycling technology, which offers a more concise and efficient process compared to traditional methods. This system dismantles spent lithium-ion batteries and uses patented chemical processes to extract valuable minerals like lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese. A key feature is a selective leaching process and early-stage lithium recovery, which achieves a recovery rate of over 92% while reducing energy consumption by at least 40%. Furthermore, its proprietary co-extractants (BC196, 211) can simultaneously recover nickel, cobalt, and manganese, leading to a significant reduction in energy use, chemical consumption, and wastewater generation. Beyond lithium-ion batteries, the company has also developed recycling processes for hydrogen fuel cells and solid-state batteries and has established a life cycle assessment (LCA) system for EV batteries that complies with international standards.
