Ateios, a deep-tech startup, was founded in 2017 by two University of California San Diego alumni, Rajan Kumar, who has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, and Carlos Munoz.
The company is a manufacturer of flexible and ultra-thin zinc-silver oxide batteries. Ateios has developed a proprietary manufacturing process that allows for the high-throughput production of these batteries. This process is said to increase manufacturing speeds by a factor of 10 and reduce processing costs by a factor of 5. The company also produces PFAS-free UV-cured and energy-cured binders for lithium-ion cells.
Ateios provides electrode manufacturing solutions and develops surface-mountable batteries for high-power wireless communication. The company's batteries are designed to be integrated into electronics during the manufacturing process.
In 2020, Ateios raised $1.25 million in seed funding. The company has also been awarded a $2.4 million contract by the United States Department of Defense.
