About Astral Systems

Astral Systems is a Bristol deeptech company founded in 2021 by Talmon Firestone (CEO) and Dr Tom Wallace-Smith (CTO) that commercialises compact Multi-State Fusion (MSF) neutron sources based on lattice-confinement fusion research. The reactors aim to enable decentralised, on-demand production of medical radioisotopes for cancer diagnosis and treatment as ageing fission reactors retire, with additional applications in materials research, industrial imaging and nuclear security. After a February 2025 financing led by Speedinvest and Playfair, Astral Systems raised £23 million in the first close of a Series A in June 2026 led by Mercia Ventures, with Tees River, Daphni, Blast Club, Speedinvest, Playfair and others, bringing total funding above £28 million to scale production and deliver reactors.
