ALOHA
Employee-owned maker of plant-based protein products
About ALOHA
ALOHA is an employee-owned and operated food company that specializes in plant-based protein products. It was founded in 2012 by Austrian entrepreneur Constantin Bisanz, with a mission to help people live healthier lives. The inspiration came from his study of Ayurvedic medicine in India and frustration with the lack of quality, healthy products in the food industry. Bisanz, a serial entrepreneur who started his first company at age 14, had previously sold his fashion e-commerce site, Brands4Friends, to eBay in 2011.
The company's initial seed funding of $4.5 million in late 2013 came from firms including Khosla Ventures, Highland Capital Partners, and First Round Ventures. In 2017, Brad Charron took over as CEO and is considered a "re-founder." He led a significant restructuring, which included reformulating the entire product line and redesigning the company from the ground up to focus on its core competencies. Under his leadership, ALOHA became a Certified B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified, emphasizing a balance between purpose and profit.
ALOHA’s product portfolio includes protein bars, drinks, and powders. The company asserts that all its products are USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and free from soy, dairy, stevia, and sugar alcohols. The business operates on a direct-to-consumer model through its website and also distributes its products through a wide range of retail partners, including Whole Foods, Target, Kroger, and Sprouts, as well as online marketplaces like Amazon and Thrive Market.
