About Advion
In 1993, Dr. Jack Henion, a professor at Cornell University, co-founded Advion BioSciences as a spin-off from the university. The company was established to develop and manufacture innovative products for the life sciences industry, focusing on microfluidics and mass spectrometry—highly specialized techniques used to identify and measure substances. Based in Ithaca, New York, the firm built its business around creating instruments and consumables that would become essential tools in research and development. A significant chapter in Advion's journey occurred in 2011 when the global contract research organization Quintiles acquired Advion's BioServices division. This strategic move allowed the parent company to continue as Advion, Inc., sharpening its focus on its core business of developing and expanding its life science systems and consumables. Following this, the company continued to grow and innovate within its specialized market. A pivotal event took place in July 2015, when Advion, Inc. was acquired by Beijing Bohui Innovation Technology, a publicly-traded Chinese company. This acquisition marked a new phase for Advion, providing it with a larger global footprint and integrating it into a broader portfolio of diagnostic and inspection technologies. Today, as part of a larger international group, Advion continues to operate from its Ithaca headquarters, a testament to its journey from an academic spin-off to a key player on the global stage.
