About Adesto Technologies

Adesto Technologies Corporation, founded in 2006 by Narbeh Derhacobian, Shane Hollmer, and Ishai Naveh, established itself as a provider of application-specific semiconductors and embedded systems tailored for the Internet of Things (IoT). The company was strategically headquartered in Santa Clara, California, positioning it within the Silicon Valley technology ecosystem. Derhacobian, who served as President and CEO, brought over two decades of experience in memory technologies from roles at AMD and Virage Logic.

Adesto's business model focused on the direct sale of its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs). The company specialized in developing low-power, non-volatile memory (NVM) products, which were crucial for a new generation of connected devices across industrial, consumer, communications, and medical markets. A core component of its technology was Conductive Bridging Random Access Memory (CBRAM), a technology licensed from an Arizona State University spinoff, with further intellectual property acquired from Qimonda AG in 2010. Adesto's product portfolio was extensive, including NVMs like DataFlash and FusionHD, communications ICs, mixed-signal ASICs, and IoT devices.

Significant milestones marked Adesto's trajectory, including an initial public offering in 2015 under the ticker IOTS. The company pursued an aggressive growth strategy through acquisitions. In 2018, Adesto acquired S3 Semiconductors, a provider of mixed-signal ASICs, and Echelon Corporation, a company specializing in open-standard networking platforms for industrial automation, for approximately $45 million. These acquisitions broadened Adesto's offerings from memory chips to comprehensive systems and software solutions for the Industrial IoT (IIoT). This strategic expansion culminated in Dialog Semiconductor acquiring Adesto in February 2020 for an enterprise value of approximately $500 million. The acquisition provided Dialog access to Adesto's 5,000-strong customer base and strengthened its position in the IIoT market. Subsequently, Dialog Semiconductor, along with Adesto's integrated technologies, was acquired by Renesas Electronics in 2021, marking the final chapter for Adesto as an independent entity.
