Programmatic video advertising platform for brands and publishers MoreLess

Adap.tv was a programmatic video advertising platform founded in 2006 by Amir Ashkenazi and Teg Grenager. Ashkenazi, an entrepreneur who previously co-founded and served as CTO of Shopping.com, led Adap.tv as its CEO. Grenager, also a co-founder, served as the Chief Product Officer. The company was established to automate the buying and selling of video advertising across multiple screens, including web, mobile, and television.

The firm's core technology, a video intelligence platform named Pathway, provided tools for brands, agencies, and publishers to plan, execute, and measure video ad campaigns programmatically. This included solutions for real-time bidding (RTB), audience targeting, campaign management, and analytics. The platform operated through two main units: the Adap.tv Platform, offering automated ad trading solutions, and the Adap.tv Marketplace, which functioned as a large-scale exchange for video ad inventory. The business model focused on providing a unified, efficient marketplace to connect advertisers seeking to place video ads with publishers looking to monetize their content.

In August 2013, AOL announced its acquisition of Adap.tv for $405 million, a deal comprising $322 million in cash and $83 million in AOL stock. This marked AOL's largest acquisition under then-CEO Tim Armstrong and was aimed at creating a leading end-to-end video advertising stack. Following the acquisition, Adap.tv initially operated as an independent division within AOL's video organization before its technology was integrated into AOL's broader advertising platforms, specifically ONE by AOL. This integration eventually became part of Verizon Media and later Yahoo's advertising division after subsequent corporate acquisitions.
