UK Innovation Update – Q1 2026
An update of innovation and venture capital in the UK in Q1 2026 - in collaboration with HSBC Innovation Banking.
Key findings
- UK startups raised $7.8B in venture capital in Q1 2026, up $2.9B (60%) year-on-year and the strongest opening quarter since 2022.
- UK AI companies raised a record $5.8B in Q1 2026, with eight megarounds accounting for $4.6B, or 80% of all UK AI venture capital.
- The UK took 41% of all European venture capital in Q1 2026, raising more than France, Germany and the Netherlands combined.
- The UK innovation economy is worth a combined $1.3 trillion, up from $179B in 2015, with 58% of that value in companies founded since 2010.
- UK AI startups are worth $321.1B, 4.3x the enterprise value of France or Germany, and the UK counts 33 AI unicorns against France's 14 and Germany's 13.
