Cognichip launches ACI Enterprise to compress chip design by 10x
Key points
Key takeaways from theCUBE interview with Cognichip founder and CEO Faraj Aalaei, recorded at the NYSE studio with John Furrier and David Vellante (September 2026):
ACI Enterprise launch. Cognichip is launching ACI Enterprise, billed as the world's first full-stack intelligence infrastructure for chip design — a foundation model for semiconductors combined with detailed chip-design workflows.
Physics-informed models. The models are trained from the ground up on transistor physics and chip workflows, built on what Aalaei calls the largest data moat in the semiconductor industry — unlike general-purpose LLMs bolted onto chip flows, he says the system designs "with confidence" and no hallucination.
Tenfold compression. Aalaei claims chip design tasks compress by a factor of 10 at minimum: chips that today take hundreds to thousands of engineers and several hundred million dollars could be designed by very few engineers with ACI.
Bespoke chips. The platform enables bespoke devices with lower power and better performance, replacing the general-purpose approach forced by 5-year design cycles — and letting hardware react quickly as workloads change.
Edge AI in days. For physical AI, model weights can be pulled into hardware in days rather than weeks or months, and idea-to-FPGA-programme in hours to days — aimed at robots and edge devices whose information keeps changing.
Open weights and on-prem. Open weights are "crucially important": defence and semiconductor customers want air-gapped, on-prem deployments so their IP never leaves their environment — "in the semiconductor industry your IP is everything you have."
Rollout. Aalaei — who has built and taken two semiconductor companies public — says Cognichip is engaged with 40 customers today and will keep adding capability until the system can be used without being an electrical engineer.
