Exclusive: SpaceX Lays Groundwork For Turbine-Blade Factory to Solve Data Center Power Crunch
SpaceX is laying groundwork for a turbine-blade and vane foundry in Bastrop, Texas, targeting the component bottleneck that has helped push large-turbine delivery into 2030; Musk says in-house casting could bring gas turbines online up to 18 months faster. The facility could serve both data-center turbines and Raptor rocket-engine turbopumps, while SpaceX separately sources 3–4 GW of bridge power through turbine purchases and suppliers. The ambition supports Musk’s claim that SpaceX could build at least 10 GW of terrestrial data centers by end-2027, but permits were not found and replicating specialist casting expertise could take years.
