Building a Media Platform for the Tech Ecosystem
This interview with Vitaly Lenyuk, founder of Digital Business, provides insights into the growth of Kazakhstan's leading tech media platform. Launched in 2022, Digital Business has rapidly grown to reach 300,000 unique monthly users within two years, focusing on covering Kazakhstan's burgeoning tech and startup ecosystem.
The platform emerged at an opportune time, coinciding with significant developments in Kazakhstan's tech sector, including the relocation of international companies and the launch of venture funds. Digital Business maintains editorial standards by ensuring balanced coverage, particularly in controversial stories, and has become known for significant coverage like the QazaqTech conflict and profiles of emerging startups.
The media platform generates revenue through sponsored content and special projects, while maintaining editorial integrity by clearly separating commercial and editorial content. Notably, smaller startups and venture funds have begun seeking coverage, recognizing the importance of media presence for their growth.
Digital Business has expanded beyond pure tech coverage into broader business reporting, particularly finding success with stories about small businesses. Their content strategy includes covering both success stories and failures, providing a realistic view of entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan.
Looking ahead, the platform plans to expand into video content and reach a broader business audience while maintaining its core focus on technology and startups. The founder believes Kazakhstan's tech ecosystem needs major international success stories to truly put it on the global map, suggesting that achieving unicorn status will likely require companies to expand beyond Kazakhstan's market size limitations.
This comprehensive approach to covering Kazakhstan's tech ecosystem has helped establish Digital Business as a key player in the region's media landscape, contributing to the broader development of the country's startup ecosystem.
