The Journey and Lessons from NiftPad's Closure
About Niftpad
- In October 2021, Ole Hammerich and his cofounder Hannes Kleist launched NiftPad, a platform for brands to create and sell digital assets, which later pivoted into a B2B loyalty program.
- Initially, the company appeared successful; it graduated from the University of Cambridge, raised VC funding, closed deals with big corporates, and was recognized as a Top20 startup at Slush.
- However, after a year and a half, the founders decided to close the company and return the remaining funds due to the lack of product-market fit
Their journey revealed key lessons.:
- First, they focused too much on technology and not enough on solving specific problems, highlighting the importance of engaging with customers to identify and address their needs.
- Second, having a well-defined Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) is crucial. Attempting to cater to various industries diluted their effectiveness.
- Lastly, they learned that early-stage startups should prioritize talking to customers and building the product, avoiding non-essential tasks that do not directly contribute to finding product-market fit.
