Australian Government Invests $940M in PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum, a Silicon Valley startup with Australian roots, has secured a $940 million (USD 617 million) investment from the Australian government to develop the world’s first commercially viable quantum computer in Brisbane. The federal and Queensland governments are each contributing $470 million through share purchases, grants, and loans, potentially making PsiQuantum the highest-funded independent quantum company in the world. The company joins major players like Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Quantinuum in the race to advance practical quantum computing.

The investment is expected to generate up to 400 highly skilled jobs, providing a significant boost to Australia's tech sector, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Queensland Premier Steven Miles emphasized the potential for billions in economic opportunities and the creation of thousands of additional tech jobs.
