Aberdeen launches $110M macro fund amid surge in allocator demand

What's the deal? AberdeenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Investments has launched the Macro Opportunities Fund with $110 million in assets, a strategy built to help investors diversify and weather volatile markets. It is led by Maximilien Macmillan, head of macro investments, multi-asset, and invests across global markets, adjusting positions as conditions shift.

How it is funded: The fund is seeded through allocations from Aberdeen's own multi-asset mandates. Separately, a sovereign wealth fund has committed $500 million to the broader macro capability as a bespoke mandate — managed by the same team, but not part of this fund.

Why now? Macmillan points to "persistent inflation uncertainty, evolving monetary policy and heightened geopolitical risk" as forces widening the range of outcomes across asset classes. Aberdeen says discretionary interest in its macro capabilities has risen.

What's the endgame? The Macro Opportunities Fund is a daily dealing, Luxembourg-domiciled sub-fund of abrdn SICAV I, open to institutional investors across several countries. Aberdeen says it launches "with substantial assets already committed" and a pipeline of internal and institutional interest.

What could go wrong? The fund enters a competitive field where investors favour established managers, and macro funds have seen closures alongside new launches.

The signal: Macro strategies are drawing fresh money. HFR reported macro funds gained $40 billion in assets in the third quarter of 2026, including $8.8 billion of net inflows, as allocators lean on macro bets for resilience and diversification.
