Bogart owner buys €650M perfumery chain Marionnaud from CK Hutchison

What's the deal? David Konckier, major shareholder and chief executive officer of French beauty group Bogart, has completed the acquisition of perfumery chain MarionnaudDealroom has a profile for this one. The transaction, announced in July and confirmed on November 5, 2026, ends more than two decades of ownership by Hong Kong conglomerate CK HutchisonDealroom has a profile for this one. What's being acquired? Marionnaud is one of Europe's largest selective perfumery retailers, with about €650 million in annual revenue, nearly 4,200 employees, and 687 stores across eight countries. Konckier says the chain will keep its identity and brand name.

What's the endgame? The strategic prize is distribution. Konckier plans to grow Marionnaud's sales and build synergies across his businesses, notably by using the chain's network — far larger than Bogart's — to sell Bogart's own brands.

The structure matters. Konckier bought Marionnaud "in a personal capacity," so listed Bogart SA is not a party to the deal in terms of ownership. Any benefit to Bogart depends on commercial arrangements rather than consolidated control.

Why now? Bogart needs growth. It reported first-half 2026 revenue of €114.7 million, down 7.4%, with its Bogart Beauty Retail division — about 450 stores including the April Beauty and DI banners — falling 7.1% to €93.1 million amid subdued spending and store closures in France, Belgium, and Germany.

What could go wrong? Marionnaud itself has lost ground. Its share of the French market fell to around 12% in 2023, against roughly 40% for SephoraDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The promised synergies remain an opportunity, not yet evidence of a turnaround.

The signal: The deal reshapes European prestige beauty retail, folding a struggling chain into the orbit of a rival owner. But with Bogart excluded from the ownership, the pay-off hinges on execution — whether Konckier can convert a bigger shop network into higher sales for brands that are already under pressure.
