EIB lends €100M to Hungary's Eximbank for business green investments

What's the deal? The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing €100 million to Hungarian Export-Import Bank (Eximbank Hungary)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to finance renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other green investments across Hungary.

What's the endgame? The debt facility channels long-term financing to businesses through Eximbank rather than funding a single project. Eligible investments include solar photovoltaic systems, energy-efficiency upgrades in industrial facilities, and electric vehicles with charging infrastructure.

Why now? The financing aligns with REPowerEU objectives to cut reliance on fossil fuels. It aims to help firms lower energy costs, reduce exposure to fuel imports, and shield against price volatility.

"The green transition is not just a climate imperative; it is a business opportunity," said EIB Vice-President Marko Primorac.

Zalán Kiss, chief executive officer of EXIM Hungary, said the deal "creates new opportunities to support Hungarian companies in implementing their energy efficiency and green investment projects."

The signal: The round sits in the top tier by size, and it extends a pattern of EIB-backed green lending in Hungary. The EIB Group reported €759 million in Hungarian financing in 2025, and signed €100 billion in total new financing and advisory services across the EU last year.
