TSMC prices $452M green bond sale, extending its lead as Taiwan's top issuer
What's the deal? TSMC has priced US$428.4M in unsecured green bonds, the Taipei Exchange said. The bonds are scheduled to list on November 12.
The details: The sale splits into US$358.9M of five-year bonds at a 2.30% coupon and US$69.5M of 10-year bonds at 2.42%. Taishin Securities is the major underwriter, with Taipei Fubon Commercial Bank serving as trustee.
Where the money goes: TSMC earmarked the proceeds for green buildings and other environmental projects, not new chipmaking capacity. The bonds carry no rights to convert into or exchange for shares.
Why now? The issue is the third green bond sale this year under a board-approved plan to raise up to US$1.74B in Taiwan in 2026. The new coupons run higher than TSMC's US$535.5M July sale, which priced at 2.03% and 2.10%.
By the numbers: Since its first green bond in December 2020, TSMC's outstanding green bonds total US$6.63B, making it Taiwan's top green bond issuer and its largest buyer of renewable energy.
The signal: At roughly $452 million, this is a routine funding step, modest beside TSMC's forecast of $60–64 billion in 2026 capital spending amid strong AI-chip demand. It reflects Taiwan's broader push to grow a sustainability bond market that now tops US$23.9B in outstanding value, with green bonds making up over 70%.
