CompareNetworks buys Empowering Pumps, launches Flow Systems media brand
What's the deal? CompareNetworksDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, parent of Gulf Energy Information and GlobalSpec, has acquired Empowering Pumps & Equipment for an undisclosed sum. It is folding the business into a new industrial media brand, Flow Systems, covering pumps, valves, seals, motors, drives, and instrumentation.
What's the endgame? Flow Systems combines three pieces: Empowering Pumps' specialist community, Gulf Energy Information's technical media reach, and GlobalSpec's engineering product-discovery platform. The aim is a single channel linking manufacturers with the engineers, operators, and maintenance professionals who specify and buy industrial equipment.
Charli Matthews Carruth, who founded Empowering Pumps in 2010, will lead Flow Systems as brand leader, alongside her existing team.
"It's never been just about the pumps. It's about the systems they support and the people behind them," Carruth said.
Why now? Flow Systems launches at the Pumps & Valves Innovation Conference in Houston. Its full website is scheduled for January 2027, when Empowering Pumps' community and content archive will move over; existing programs and partner commitments continue through the end of 2026.
What changes? Empowering Pumps' programs, including the Empowering Industry Podcast and Industry Access plant tours, will continue under Flow Systems. The brand plans to widen editorial coverage to controls, reliability, and energy efficiency across refining, petrochemicals, pipelines, gas processing and LNG, water and wastewater, and industrial processing.
"This acquisition is about bringing together complementary strengths, not simply adding another publication," said Paul Gatti, chief executive officer of CompareNetworks.
The signal: The deal reflects a push to merge specialist technical content with product discovery as a way to reach industrial buyers. It is a niche media play, far smaller than manufacturing consolidation such as XylemDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s $1.46 billion agreement in August to buy Cornell PumpDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Roper Pump — but it points to growing strategic interest in the fluid-handling market.
