Auckland Airport launches $56.2M retail bond to fund expansion
What's the deal? Auckland International Airport has launched a five-year fixed-rate retail bond offering of up to US$64.7M to institutional and New Zealand retail investors. The bonds mature on 17 November 2031 and are expected to carry an A− credit rating from S&P Global RatingsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. ANZDealroom has a profile for this one. The fine print: The offer opened with an indicative margin of 0.80% to 0.85%, with the final interest rate set after the bookbuild closes on 6 November 2026. There is no public pool — all bonds are reserved for clients of the lead managers and other approved institutional investors.
Why now? The raise supports a heavy investment cycle. Auckland AirportDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → spent about US$692.4M on capital projects in FY26, including its Terminal Integration programme and a new Domestic Jet Terminal, and says elevated investment has roughly two more years to run.
The bigger package: The retail tranche is one part of a larger programme. The airport is also offering up to US$97.1M of floating-rate bonds, maturing in November 2029, to wholesale investors, with combined issuance capped at US$226.5M.
By the numbers: Drawn debt rose 11% to US$1.79B as the airport deployed equity-raise proceeds, lifting gearing to 19.7%. It still holds US$957.6M in undrawn committed facilities and US$35.6M in cash.
The signal: The offering lands amid a busy stretch for New Zealand's debt market, with Contact EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Kiwi Property Group both pricing bonds in recent weeks. For a capital-intensive operator like Auckland Airport, tapping retail debt is a routine but meaningful step to keep funding an expansion that still has years to go.
