Sequoia China successor HSG buys 80% of medical nitinol maker PeierTech
What's the deal? HSGDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the private equity and venture firm formerly known as Sequoia China, has acquired a controlling stake in Jiangyin PeierTech, a Chinese supplier of medical-grade nitinol and precision components. HSG now holds roughly 80%, while the existing management team keeps the balance and continues to run day-to-day operations. The deal value was not disclosed.
What each side brings: Founded in 2002 and based in Jiangsu Province, PeierTech makes nitinol wire and tubing, precision components, and assembly services for medical device makers in more than 20 countries. HSG, which manages over $61 billion in assets, has backed more than 1,800 companies since 2005.
What's the endgame? HSG plans to introduce a market-based equity incentive program for key management to support growth and international expansion. "We see significant opportunities to further strengthen its global position through international expansion, operational improvements, and market consolidation," said Steve Jia, a partner at HSG.
Why now? Nitinol, a nickel-titanium alloy, is a high-barrier segment of medical device manufacturing with strong demand from minimally invasive and cardiovascular devices. PeierTech serves cardiac, neurovascular, orthopedic, and other fields, and has expanded its multinational customer base in recent years.
Amy Shen, chief executive officer of PeierTech, said HSG's investment "marks a new chapter," bringing "financial support, international experience, and an extensive industry network."
The signal: The deal stands out as a controlling bet on an upstream materials supplier rather than a finished-device developer, reflecting investor interest in the specialized components that high-specification devices depend on.
