LIGHTz buys AI engineering firm Omotech to embed factory AI

What's the deal? LIGHTz, a Tsukuba-based company behind a knowledge-sharing AI platform for manufacturers, has fully acquired omoshiro technology (Omotech), a Tokyo AI engineering and security firm. The deal, a share transfer completed on September 30, has an undisclosed value.

What does each side do? LIGHTz offers a "generalised-knowledge" AI and brain-model platform aimed at technology transfer and labour shortages in manufacturing. Omotech, founded in October 2022, builds AI systems and handles security engineering, specialising in forward-deployed engineering — sending engineers into client sites to design, implement, and refine solutions.

What's the endgame? LIGHTz wants to shift from supplying a platform to delivering AI inside day-to-day factory work. Adding Omotech's AI and security engineers lets it send specialists onto client factory floors to speed deployment and shorten product-development cycles.

Why now? As AI tools spread, manufacturers increasingly want partners who stay until results appear, not just vendors who install software and leave. "Introducing the platform is not the end," LIGHTz said, pointing to demand for hands-on implementation.

What are they saying? Omotech chief executive officer Hoki Noro said the firm has pursued its vision to "bring back the fun of technology" since launch. The company will keep its name and continue serving existing customers; plans for joint services will be announced later.

The signal: The deal is modest in scale, but it reflects a broader push among Japanese manufacturers and technology groups to buy practical AI capabilities rather than build them.
