BGFIBank's $172M share offer closes oversubscribed, in top 5% for Gabon

What's the deal? BGFIBankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → raised 100,835,520,000 XAF (roughly $172 million) in a post-IPO equity offering that closed oversubscribed on October 15, 2026. The Gabonese financial group drew 1,604 subscribers across 19 countries, covering the shares on offer 1.25 times.

Why it matters: At about $172 million, the raise ranks in the 95th percentile of post-IPO equity rounds in Gabon's marketing-linked financial sector over the trailing 48 months, based on a sample of 232 deals. It stands out on a regional exchange still dominated by a handful of listed names.

Why now? This was the second phase of BGFI Holding's capital opening, which followed its May listing on the BVMAC regional bourse. The phase targeted 80.6 billion XAF after the first round pulled in just 45.3 billion of a roughly 125.9 billion XAF overall goal — making the oversubscription a reversal of the earlier shortfall.

What's the endgame? The funds will finance the group's "BGFI 2030" strategy, which aims to strengthen operational efficiency, consolidate priority markets, and add three new subsidiaries. The offering also lifts BGFI's free float from 3.85% to the 10% regulatory threshold.

Ecobank Development Corporation acted as co-lead arranger and bookrunner alongside BGFIBourse, mobilising teams in Cameroon, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo. BGFI posted a 9% rise in 2025 net profit, to 133 billion XAF, and grew assets 24%.

What's next: "The confidence investors have shown us," said chairman and chief executive officer Henri-Claude Oyima, commits the group to continued growth. BGFI has not yet published the final allocation or how shares will be distributed.

The signal: Strong demand marks a confidence vote in one of Central Africa's largest banking groups and in the young BVMAC market. But subscription success is not the same as durable liquidity — the real test is whether the regional exchange can sustain trading beyond this raise.
