R.M. Young buys Texas Electronics to widen its rain-gauge line

What's the deal? R.M. Young Company has acquired Texas ElectronicsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a maker of tipping-bucket rain gauges and meteorological sensors, the firms announced in November 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

Who's involved? R.M. Young has built meteorological instruments since 1964, spanning wind, temperature, humidity, pressure, visibility, and snow-depth sensors. Texas Electronics has made precipitation sensors since 1956, built to National Weather Service and World Meteorological Organization specifications.

What's the endgame? The deal adds Texas Electronics' five tipping-bucket gauge models and accessories to Young's catalogue, broadening its precipitation offerings. The new options include collector sizes from 4-inch to 245mm, siphon versions for heavy rainfall, a heater accessory for snow and freezing rain, and a pendant data logger for sites without separate logging.

What changes for customers? Little, for now. Young says the Texas Electronics gauges will complement its existing 52202 and 52203 tipping-bucket models rather than replace them, giving buyers a wider range of configurations.

The signal: The modest, product-line acquisition fits a broader pattern of environmental-monitoring firms adding adjacent capabilities. In 2026, Leonardo announced a planned purchase of weather-radar maker Enterprise Electronics, while BinMaster agreed to acquire Stevens Water Monitoring SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →' weather, soil, and water products.
