Bavarian Nordic wins four-year UK government contract for mpox and smallpox vaccine

What happened: Bavarian Nordic announced on 2 November 2026 that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by the UK government, through the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), for the supply of MVA-BN, its non-replicating vaccine indicated for the prevention of mpox and smallpox. Under the four-year contract, Bavarian Nordic will deliver the vaccine through scheduled deliveries, with optional flexibility provisions included.

Why it matters: MVA-BN is the leading vaccine against mpox, the virus that caused global outbreaks from 2022 onwards, and the contract cements the UK's long-term preparedness against emerging infectious disease threats. It also extends a longstanding government partnership and gives Bavarian Nordic multi-year revenue visibility in its public-health supply business.
