Star buys ShipManager, the fleet software used by 1,700 vessels

What's the deal? Norwegian maritime software provider Star Information SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired ShipManager, a fleet management platform used by more than 80 shipping companies and 1,700 vessels, from CFARER. The terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: ShipManager folds technical management, planned maintenance, vessel operations, safety, procurement, crewing, and finance into a single system, letting ship and shore teams share operational data. It also supports regulatory reporting such as EU MRV, IMO DCS, and CII, plus compliance frameworks including SIRE 2.0 and ISM.

Why now? The deal follows the 2025 separation of CFARER from classification society DNVDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which spun off its maritime software operations into an independent business. CFARER will keep its focus on digital port clearance through its Navigator Port and PortMate applications.

What changes? Star says it will keep developing ShipManager, with its first priority being migration to the cloud. The first cloud release is scheduled for December 4, 2026. The transaction also moves HullManager back to DNV.

The signal: The sale marks a notable ownership change for a core fleet-management product barely a year after CFARER was carved out of DNV. It fits a wider wave of maritime-software consolidation—UniSeaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → bought Kaiko SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in June, and StormGeoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → acquired Portchain in October—as buyers build broader, more integrated platforms.
