Solen buys Teletask, a messaging platform reaching 3M+ WIC families

What's the deal? Solen Software GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired TeletaskDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a cloud-based messaging platform used by WIC and public health agencies to reach families by text, voice, and email. Terms were not disclosed. Salt Lake City-based Solen is a permanent capital investor that buys and holds mission-critical software businesses for the long term.

What does Teletask do? Founded in 1989 by Norm Rees, the company builds two-way texting, appointment reminders, scheduling, surveys, and e-signature tools for public health agencies. It runs over standard SMS, so families need no app to receive a reminder or reply.

By the numbers: Teletask serves agencies in more than 35 states, including WIC programs covering over three million participants, and delivers more than 100 million messages a year.

What changes? Teletask will keep operating independently, backed by Solen's capital and optional shared services. "We chose Solen because we wanted a long-term partner for Teletask," said CEO Brian Rees, who led the company's shift to a SaaS platform after joining in 2014.

Why it fits: The deal matches Solen's strategy of acquiring niche vertical software providers and holding them without fixed exit timelines. "A team that can make that shift and keep its customers close is a team we want to partner with for decades," said Will Nouse, Solen's director of M&A.

The signal: The acquisition lands amid steady consolidation in public-sector and public-health technology, where buyers see value in compliance-heavy, sticky platforms. The open question is whether Solen's backing funds continued product investment while preserving the agency relationships on which these programs depend.
