Seibersdorf opens €17M radiopharmaceuticals lab, one of Europe's largest

What's the deal? Seibersdorf LaboratoriesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a wholly owned subsidiary of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, opened a new €17 million lab and production building for radiopharmaceuticals on November 2, 2026, at the Tech Campus Seibersdorf in Lower Austria. The company calls it one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. Operational production is slated to begin in 2028.

What does it do? Seibersdorf develops manufacturing processes and analytical methods for radiopharmaceuticals — drugs containing radioactive components used for both diagnostics and targeted cancer therapy. It acts as a development and production service provider for clinics, pharmaceutical companies, and biotech firms.

What's the endgame? The new building, built over the past two years, expands capacity for development and international contract manufacturing. Current production will gradually move into the larger facility, which is geared toward scaling output for international markets. The drugs will supply patients in Austria and be shipped across Europe and overseas.

Why now? Managing director Markus Neumann said the lab is "decisive to expand our capacities, serve the globally rising demand, and secure patient care at the highest level" (translated from German). The drugs bind to specific tumour structures, making cancer such as prostate cancer visible and treatable more precisely than conventional radiation therapy.

What could go wrong? Broad production of therapeutics requires approval from the relevant health authorities. For now, Seibersdorf produces radiopharmaceuticals for clinical trials, among other uses.

The signal: Radiopharmaceuticals are a growing pillar of precision medicine, and the investment positions Austria — and specifically Lower Austria — as a research and manufacturing hub in a field drawing rising global demand.
