Kutxabank's Talde targets €100M deeptech fund tied to Tecnalia spin-offs
What's the deal? Talde, the venture capital arm of Spanish bank KutxabankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has launched Gálate Deeptech I, a fund targeting €100 million to invest in robotics, semiconductors, and aerospace. The fund is expandable to €125 million, with a first close expected once commitments reach €60 million.
The structure: Gálate plans to allocate between 30% and 70% of its assets to opportunities proposed by TecnaliaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the Basque applied-research institute. Individual investments are reported to range from roughly €150,000 to €10 million.
Who's behind it? Kutxabank controls 63% of Talde, which manages more than €630 million. The firm requires a minimum commitment of €100,000 per investor and will itself invest up to 2% of the fund.
Why now? In September, the Basque regional government selected Gálate and three other funds for up to €60 million in public commitments. Recipients must invest at least twice that amount in businesses of Basque interest.
What's the endgame? The fund links a research institute, private capital, and regional policy to close the gap between laboratory technology and commercial scale-up. Talde aims to expand its presence in advanced industrial technologies, following the recent completion of another fund of more than €155 million.
What could go wrong? The €100 million is a target, not capital raised. Talde says the first close will only follow once commitments clear €60 million, and the Tecnalia pipeline remains a proposal rather than a proven deal flow.
The signal: Gálate reflects a broader Basque push to turn research into investable companies, tying public money to private deeptech bets in hard-to-commercialise sectors. Its distinctive angle — a structured pipeline from a single research institute — makes it more than a routine fundraising announcement.
