AE Industrial lands $850M continuation fund for defense distributor Blue Raven

What's the deal? AE Industrial PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed AE Industrial Partners BR Fund, LP, an $850 million single-asset continuation vehicle built around the recapitalisation of its portfolio company Blue Raven. Secondaries specialist Lexington Partners led the deal, joined by several institutional investors, while Blue Raven management and some existing shareholders rolled significant proceeds into the new fund.

What's the endgame? The capital is meant to accelerate Blue Raven's growth through organic initiatives and potential acquisitions. "This continuation vehicle will provide additional capital to accelerate growth," said Jon Nemo, managing partner at AE Industrial.

What's Blue Raven? Since AE Industrial first invested in 2019, the company has become a technology-enabled distributor of engineered parts, complex systems, and hard-to-source components for defense original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), serving customers in more than 40 countries. Its proprietary SEDNA analytics platform provides forecasting to cut lead times and maintain mission readiness.

Why now? A continuation vehicle lets AE Industrial return cash to investors who want out while keeping ownership of an asset it still backs — a useful tool when conventional exits are constrained. "Lexington is a leader in secondary private equity investing and shares our conviction in Blue Raven's strategy," said Charlie Compton, managing partner at AE Industrial.

The firm, which manages roughly $9.4 billion as of June 30, 2026, invests in technologies and services tied to national and economic security. It has launched a fourth fund against rising investor interest in aerospace and defense.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader surge in GP-led secondaries. Lexington's 2026 outlook puts global secondary transaction volume above $240 billion in 2025, with single-asset continuation vehicles making up about 53% of GP-led volume — evidence that sponsors are increasingly using these structures to extend ownership rather than sell.
