Neoen lands $1.26B refinancing for Australian renewables portfolio
What's the deal? Neoen has raised an US$1.16B debt facility to refinance a 1.2GW portfolio of Australian wind, solar, and storage assets. It is the company's largest financing to date.
The assets: The portfolio spans the 150MW/193.5MWh Hornsdale Power Reserve and 209MW Goyder South Wind Farm Stage 1A in South Australia, the 440MWp Culcairn Solar Farm and 215MW/963MWh Culcairn Battery in New South Wales, and the 179MW Narrogin Wind Farm in Western Australia.
What's the endgame? Neoen is Australia's largest renewable energy company, having contributed more than 6GW of wind, solar, and storage capacity. It aims to reach 10GW in Australia by 2030, backed by a pledge to invest a further US$6.47B in the country.
Why now? The deal continues Neoen's shift toward financing assets in larger pooled portfolios, following an US$711.8M portfolio financing in February 2024 and an US$905.9M expansion that December. Australian clean-energy project finance also rebounded sharply in the third quarter of 2026, with capacity rising to 4.9GW from 1.8GW in the prior quarter.
Group chief executive officer Xavier Barbaro said the transaction "reflects the quality and diversity of our assets and demonstrates our ability to optimise our financing structure and strengthen our balance sheet."
Regional chief executive officer for Australia Pacific Jean-Christophe Cheylus added that the financing drew both long-term partners and new lenders. "This landmark transaction underlines the strength, depth and growth of our portfolio in Australia," he said.
The signal: At roughly $1.26 billion, the facility ranks near the top of post-IPO debt rounds in European energy, landing around the 95th percentile of comparable deals. It reflects returning lender appetite for large, diversified renewables portfolios that increasingly bundle batteries with generation.
