Try Dealroom →-based 24/7 perpetual futures to the United States.
What's the endgame? Under a definitive agreement announced on 29 October 2026, ICE will be the exclusive operator of Trade[XYZ]'s regulated US markets and plans a new, dedicated retail market and clearing structure built on Hyperliquid, branded ICE[XYZ]. It would list round-the-clock contracts on equities, indices, commodities, FX and crypto for KYC/AML-verified customers, reached through futures brokers and ICE's joint venture with OKX. ICE says its business today is more than 99% institutional, so retail is a new market for it; the retail unit will run separately from its institutional futures franchise.
Why now? Trade[XYZ] says its Hyperliquid markets have handled more than $650 billion in volume in just over a year, and they will keep running alongside the US venue. ICE's investment fits a wider push by the NYSE parent into crypto-native platforms, following strategic deals with Polymarket in 2025 and OKX in 2026. Druckenmiller said he hopes to use the product to improve his investment process. His family office also disclosed a stake of 2.94 million shares in Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies, worth $23.15 million as of 30 June, according to an SEC filing cited by CoinDesk.
What could go wrong? The plan is not yet a launch. It needs CFTC and other regulatory approvals, including for leveraged trading, and no launch date has been set. CME Group is separately suing the CFTC over how perpetual contracts are classified.
The signal: Druckenmiller's backing adds investor visibility, but the companies disclosed neither his investment size nor the terms of ICE's minority stake, which ICE says will not materially affect its 2026 results. The significance rests mainly on ICE's commitment to pulling a crypto-native product into regulated US markets.
