Vinyl Group chair extends $1.41M loan as cash falls to $777K
What's the deal? Vinyl GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → chair Ken GauntDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to lend the ASX-listed publishing and music platforms company another US$1.29M as it chases profitability. The post-IPO debt facility was disclosed alongside Vinyl's quarterly cashflow report in October 2026.
Why now? Vinyl ended September with just $777,000 in cash and $53,000 in unused finance facilities after a $1.8 million net operating cash outflow for the quarter. The filing put its runway at 0.45 of a quarter before the new loan.
The cash picture: Vinyl reported $5.5 million in customer receipts for the quarter, within guidance, but it is still waiting on about $5 million in outstanding receivables, including more than $1.5 million overdue. It blamed delayed advertiser campaigns and pointed to a "seasonal peak" with more than $8 million of existing receivables.
What's the endgame? The money buys time as Vinyl integrates recent acquisitions and tries to turn audience scale into sales. It is "targeting a sustainably EBITDA-positive monthly run-rate from December".
The results: FY26 revenue rose 31% to about $18.8 million and the net loss narrowed 46% to $8.6 million. Operating cash outflow stayed at $6.9 million, and auditors flagged a material uncertainty over the company's ability to continue as a going concern.
The layoffs: The quarter was the first since Vinyl's June acquisition of Pedestrian GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which saw 17 of 35 targeted staff made redundant. Savings from that and other restructuring start flowing through this quarter.
The hire: In July, former SevenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → revenue chief Kurt Burnette joined Vinyl on an initial six-month contract to rebuild its sales processes. "We have built the audience scale. Our priority now is profitable business scale," chief executive officer Josh Simons said.
The signal: Vinyl's acquisition-led expansion lifted its Australian online reach past 50%, but dependable cash generation has not followed. Gaunt, who already provided a $10 million facility, is again backstopping the company; the real test is whether collections and margins improve before more financing is needed.
