Expansion

Inkle buys Finally's bookkeeping arm, targets South Florida small businesses

What's the deal? InkleDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a San Francisco-based AI-powered accounting and tax firm, has acquired the bookkeeping division of Finally, a Miami fintech. The all-cash deal, announced in October and undisclosed in value, brings roughly 100 employees and pushes Inkle's client base above 2,000.

Why now? This is less an expansion than a rescue of a failed rival's assets. Finally's operating company, Backoffice.co, entered an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors on September 8, 2026 — a process used to wind down a business — despite having raised about $200 million in equity and debt in 2024.

What's the endgame? Inkle, which says it is profitable after raising only $1.5 million in pre-seed capital, offers free accounting software and charges for bookkeeping, tax, and compliance work that pairs AI with licensed accountants. It generates over $5 million in annual revenue.

What changes for customers? Existing bookkeeping clients will keep working with their current teams under the new owner, Inkle said. The deal adds staff across Miami, Boca Raton, New York, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.

The expansion: The acquisition anchors Inkle's push into South Florida and broadens its reach beyond tech firms to contractors, clinics, restaurants, and other small operators. "We expect to grow our U.S. team, including in South Florida, as we expand into the small-business market," said co-founder and chief executive officer Anand Krishna.

What could go wrong? The main test is retaining Finally's bookkeeping clients and moving them onto Inkle's platform — not simply adding headcount. A failed parent can unsettle customers mid-transition.

The signal: The deal shows how profitable, lightly funded startups can buy the remnants of heavily financed rivals that burned through capital. Krishna frames the ambition bluntly: "We're building the AI-powered Big Four: a CPA firm where frontier AI and experienced professionals deliver the outcome, not just the software."
