Yandex Armenia picks 10 teams from 140 bids for first startup accelerator
What's the deal? Yandex Armenia launched its first international startup accelerator, selecting 10 teams from 140 qualified applications for a three-month program. The initiative, launched in September 2026, pairs early-stage founders with mentors, trackers, and computing resources.
How the selection worked: After several rounds, 39 teams joined a BootCamp, and 36 startups pitched across two streams on Pitch Day on September 5. Ten advanced to the accelerator, working on fields including education, financial management, robotics, accessibility, and mobility. Some already generate revenue; others are still building prototypes.
Why now? "Armenia's engineering expertise provides a solid foundation for new technology businesses, while its small domestic market makes international ambition a practical necessity," said Aram Mkhitaryan, head of Yandex Armenia. The accelerator aims to turn technical ideas into products that reach customers beyond Armenia.
What's the endgame? The 10 teams present progress at Demo Day in Yerevan on December 18 to a jury of Yandex Armenia experts. The program closes with awards for the top three, and promising projects may be considered for integration into the Yandex Armenia ecosystem.
The signal: Yandex's effort joins a wider push to build Armenia's startup pipeline, alongside government-backed Plug and Play cohorts running since 2024 and Formula VCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s $30 million second fund targeting 40 Armenian-founded startups. What sets the accelerator apart is less its cohort size than its corporate expertise and cloud resources — though Yandex has not announced funding for participants or guaranteed commercial placements.
