Big-wave surfer Steudtner backs Munich breathwork startup Regulate

What's the deal? Big-wave surfer and world record holder Sebastian Steudtner has invested an undisclosed sum in Munich breathwork startup RegulateDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. He is also contributing his own breathing routines to the app, which now feature in a new "Trusted by Athletes" category.

What's the product? Regulate, founded in May 2026, runs a digital breathing-training platform built for the demands of working life. The app offers more than 70 guided exercises for stress, focus, activation, and recovery, many lasting just three to five minutes.

Why now? The investment comes months after Regulate raised a €1.4 million seed round in May 2026, led by impact investor 4impact.vcDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Backers of that round included Personio co-founder Hanno Renner, Forto co-founder Mike Wax, and Felix Haas.

What's the endgame? Regulate wants to establish breathwork as an accessible tool for self-regulation at work, rather than general wellness. By connecting wearables, users can also track heart-rate changes during exercises.

Steudtner, who has set world records riding towering waves off Nazaré, Portugal, trains directly with Regulate founder and breathwork coach Peter van Woerkum. He is the first athlete whose personal routines feature in the app.

What convinced him? Steudtner said the sports-science-oriented training approach was the decisive factor. "What I like best is the athletic approach," he wrote in a LinkedIn post, adding that it convinced him enough to invest.

The signal: With its amount and terms undisclosed, the deal reads less as a financing milestone and more as a profile boost. It gives Regulate a recognisable, performance-focused name as it markets breathwork to the workplace.
