Panjab Radio sells Panjab TV after 18 months to focus on core businesses
What's the deal? Panjab Radio has agreed to sell its entertainment television channel, Panjab TV, to an undisclosed independent buyer. The sale is effective from October 1, 2026; terms were not disclosed.
Why now? Panjab Radio said the move lets it consolidate its business interests and focus resources on two core operations: Panjab Radio and Pear Travel. "The decision reflects a considered assessment of the group's long-term business priorities and its commitment to sustainable growth," the company said.
What's the endgame? Panjab Radio, which has served the British Asian community for over 26 years, will keep its programming, while Pear Travel expands its escorted group tours, religious pilgrimages, and travel services. The company said the sale will not affect either operation.
What could go wrong? Panjab TV is a young asset, launched on Sky in March 2025 as a replacement for BritAsia TV, and it now sits in a crowded niche. GTC Punjabi entered the UK in 2026 alongside established players PTC PunjabiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and ZEE Punjabi, and ratings have been volatile.
The signal: The deal reads as a strategic reset rather than evidence of wider media consolidation. Its significance will hinge on whether the new owner invests in original content and distribution to compete in an increasingly contested market.
